Why NYC?
My first day landing at La Guardia airport I heard Mandarin, German, and Norwegian. Every language I had studied at that point. A lot of other languages besides, that I didn't recognize or understand. And that felt like such a magical encapsulation of the promise of New York. It feels like the world's most diverse city, every group of people has an enclave somewhere.
And no matter how obscure your hobby or interest, someone somewhere in New York practices it and U could get together. And if U wait long enough almost every teacher of renown will make their way to NYC to hold a seminar or some kind of event. It took a decade and a half but I got to practice with Ido Portal because he came to NYC.
I love the people that choose to live in NYC. Yes, living other places could feel easier, but people want to make it in the big city and I like that ambition. People in New York have places to go. I have so many people that I deeply love her.
I love that from NYC I can fly basically anywhere in the world. I love that I can take the subway to JFK and fly to Tokyo and wherever else my life might take me.
I love that I did a ritual to commemorate my love for the city and ask it for boons.
I love the public transit here and I love that people of all walks of life use it because in many situations U just can't get around any faster than on the subway because of the density of the city.
