Cultivate Wealth

Dear Matt,

Cultivate wealth. Let's define wealth as the product of abundant time, resources, and health.

U might fear wealth because U fear that if U have wealth people will know U have it. And if they know U have it, then they will ask U to help them. And if U decline, U will look stingy and feel ashamed. Consider this an excellent opportunity to practice setting boundaries. Consider it an opportunity to practice discernment. U will get to decide whether to help people or not. Better to have the ability to help than not. This mirrors the difference between Peaceful vs Harmless. If U have no resources, I'd consider that like harmlessness, U can't help people even if U wanted to. Count yourself generous for the people U do help, not stingy for the people U didn't. For if U had no resources at all, the lack of help U give doesn't make U generous.

Trust in your own worth and discernment. U will put the wealth U cultivate to good use. Your wealth flows out of the wise choices that U make and the value that U provide to society. U do not exploit the commons in order to cultivate your wealth, U expand the commonwealth to cultivate your wealth. Feel content with your wealth then, and enjoy the opportunities it gives U to plant further seeds of benefit.
